Meike Deter studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. After extensive work experience as a design assistant, costume designer and freelance designer in New York, Florence and Berlin, she graduated with a Masters degree from the Freie Universität Berlin in classical Western art history and Indian art history.

The confrontation with Western art history and Indian art history provided new inspiration for Meike Deter’s creations. Additional training in CAD systems for pattern design has helped Meike Deter to offer high-quality and tailored fashion which is still quite affordable.

In 2004, the fashion house Meike Deter was awarded third prize in the international Business Plan Competition of the Investitions Bank Berlin Brandenburg.

In 2010 Meike Deter opened her own store "mailí" in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

In 2011 her designs won the annual Walk of Fashion award.
